Renewable Energy
The UK has a short term challenge of sourcing 15% of UK electricity requirement from renewable energy sources 2020. Renewable energy will also play an important role in meeting the UK's target to reduce CO2 emissions by 80% by 2050.
Farmers and landowners are in an excellent position to take advantage of natural resources such as wind and sun and should be considering investing in renewable energy technologies. Carver Knowles has embraced this important area and advises on the advantages of renewable energy.
Wind turbine
Farmers and landowners with a good wind speed can invest in a range of 'farm' scale sind turbines. We can undertake the initial feasibility work including, desktop and site surveys, wind speed monitoring, financial and planning advice.
Solar Photovoltaic (PV)
Solar PV is capturing the energy from the sun. Solar PV systems come in almost any size and therefore can be fitted to any size farm building. The roofs should ideally be south facing and near the current power supply. Carver Knowles can undertake the initial desktop survey, undertake a site survey and advise on appropriate Solar PV systems
Biomass boiler
Farmers and landowners who have woodland or access to wood or straw should be considering a biomass boiler. These produce heat and different boilers can burn a range of fuels including wood chip, wood pellet, logs, waste wood or straw
Anaerobic Digester
Dairy farmers are ideally placed to consider an AD plant which will use the slurry and other plant and animal waste to produce gases (principally methane) to run a generator.
