NVZ Grassland Derrogation Deadline 31 March 2010

by Taunton Office
February 12, 2010

Under the NVZ rules, you may be eligible to apply for a derogation to keep grazing livestock at higher density levels without having to export your manure. To be eligible for this, 80% of the agricultural area of your farm must be grass and you must ensure that the total load of nitrogen in livestock manure added to your farm does not exceed 250 kg N per hectare per year from grazing livestock and 170 kg N per hectare per year from non grazing livestock. You must submit an application for each year and there are further land management conditions to follow and records that must be kept. Additional details can be found in the DEFRA NVZ guidance (leaflet 5a) or please contact our office for further information.
